Everywhere Edge

A Running Start

July 2, 2009

See little Suzie run.  See little Suzie improve her self-esteem.  See Suzie avoid eating disorders and pregnancy during her teenager years.  See Suzie grow up to become a confident woman who realizes her potential.

Little Suzie got a head start because her smart Mom signed her up for Girls on the Run.    This not-for-profit organization trains girls between the ages of 8 to 12 to run and complete a 5K course.

Not your standard twelve week training program, these coaches also incorporate exercises to promote character development and self-respect.  The program culminates with a fun and festive 5K race to celebrate their progress and achievement.

Originally established in 1996, Girls on the Run is now offered in over 150 cities throughout North America and has reached tens of thousands of girls.

Inspired to help?  Connect with your local chapter and coach, volunteer on race day or donate some funds.  No local chapter?  The supportive folks at Girls on the Run will work with you to start your own chapter.

Get involved and get on these girls’ good side, sooner than later.  You never know, one day you may be working for one of them.
